Canadian Families and Corrections Network (CFCN)

Position Overview: 
The Canadian Families and Corrections Network is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Executive Director to lead the organization in advancing support services for families affected by incarceration.

Reporting to the voluntary Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, program management, and community engagement in alignment with CFCN’s mission and mandate. Working remotely from a home office, the Executive Director is responsible for the successful day-to-day management of the organization while fostering partnerships, supporting staff, and strengthening services to families across Canada.
This role includes leadership responsibilities as well as direct service delivery to families and incarcerated individuals when required.

Qualifications: 
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a human services or related field from an accredited institution (master’s degree preferred).
  • 3–5 years of progressive management experience in a human services environment.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and within the non-profit sector is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in: 
    • Financial management and budgeting.
    • Staff and volunteer supervision.
    • Fundraising and proposal writing.
    • Strategic planning and organizational leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • French language proficiency is considered an asset.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance for entry into Canadian correctional facilities.
  • Reliable transportation to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Key Responsibilities: 
Leadership & Governance: 
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic priorities. 
  • Advise the Board on organizational operations, opportunities, and emerging issues. 
  • Serve as a spokesperson and representative for CFCN. 
  • Foster positive and effective relationships among Board members, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders. 
  • Strengthen CFCN’s visibility and profile within the community and justice sector. 
Operational Management: 
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization. 
  • Develop and implement operational plans aligned with organizational goals.
  • Ensure organizational policies, procedures, and privacy standards are maintained. 
  • Support Board meetings through agenda preparation and reporting.
Program & Service Delivery: 
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services.
  • Monitor service quality and program effectiveness.
  • Support and deliver direct services to families and incarcerated individuals as needed.
  • Oversee special projects and program development initiatives.
Human Resources Management: 
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
  • Promote a healthy, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture. 
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and organizational policies.
  • Support staff development, training, and wellness initiatives.
Financial & Fund Development: 
  • Work with the Board to develop and manage organizational budgets.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals.
  • Support fundraising activities and donor engagement.
  • Monitor cash flow, payroll, and financial administration. 
Community Engagement & Partnerships: 
  • Build collaborative relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Represent CFCN at meetings, consultations, and justice-sector roundtables.
  • Oversee communications, newsletters, website content, and social media engagement.
Risk Management: 
  • Identify and manage organizational risks.
  • Ensure appropriate insurance coverage and compliance measures are in place.
  • Protect the organization’s reputation, assets, staff, and clients.

Working Conditions: 
  • Remote/home office-based position.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Flexible schedule with some evening or weekend commitments as needed.
